Sea turtles at Barra del Colorado

Barra del Colorado Wildlife Refuge is well-known for its diverse wildlife, which includes monkeys and birds. Along with Tortuguero National Park, Barra del Colorado NWR is the most important nesting site for green turtles (Chelonia mydas) in the entire western hemisphere of the Caribbean. The Green Turtles nesting season is usually from July to October, with a peak in August.
